As a stand-up comedian and sketch comedy writer, Shane Michael Gillis has made a name for himself all across America as well as around the world.
Gillis also co-hosts Matt and Shane’s Secret Podcast, the most subscribed-to podcast on Patreon, along with fellow stand-up comedian Matt McCusker.
In 2019, he was named one of the “New Faces” at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal.
As his popularity rose, the American standup comedian announced that he was cast as a new member of the hit NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live.
His career in NBC didn’t last long as he was fired from the Saturday Night Live show five days later due to backlash from clips of a 2018 episode of a podcast featuring jokes that contained ethnic slurs.
In 2021, Gillis debuted with Shane Gillis: Live in Austin comedy special which was released on YouTube.
Moreover, Gillis is known for collaborating with filmmaker John McKeever on their online sketch series Gilly & Keeves.
Furthermore, his second comedy special, Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs, was released on Netflix in September 2023.

Shane Gillis Uncle Danny: Does He Have A Down Syndrome?
Shane Gillis in his new hit comedy special Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs which aired on Netflix, talks about his uncle Danny who has Down Syndrome.
In the comedy special, Gillis talks about how there is a social stigma around people who have a family member with Down syndrome and how they become sympathetic about it.
During his standup, he shares a story about his uncle. Shane Gillis uncle Danny sneaks grilled cheese sandwiches in restaurants just in case they don’t serve them at the restaurants jokes Gillis.
Gillis later talks about how having a family member who has Down syndrome can be hard for the family as he has witnessed it first-hand indicating that he also has some experiences of it.
There hasn’t been much information online about Shane Gillis Uncle Danny. He doesn’t talk that openly about his uncle other than in his standup comedy special on Netflix, so there is no certainty about Danny and if he has Down syndrome or not.
But from the way Gillis talks about his uncle, we can certainly assume that he does have some credible experience with Down syndrome patients.

Comedian Shane Gillis partners with beer brand Bud Light following a dismal year for the brand.
The beer brand has gone from making the progressive move of partnering with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney to partnering with a comedian who has been called out for racist and homophobic comments.
Gillis became more famous for a job he lost than any job he had. The comedian was hired in 2019 to join the cast of “Saturday Night Live” along with Bowen Yang and Chloe Fineman.
After a video went viral on Twitter in which Gillis mocks Chinese people, using several racial slurs during an episode of his podcast last year.
In a now-deleted YouTube video, Gillis and his co-host, Matt McCusker, shared a slew of racist ‘jokes’ against Chinese Americans, mocking their accents and culture. Thus, resulting in expulsion from NBC.
He has been somewhat of a Bud Light supporter, drinking the beer during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast during the height of the controversy.
Rogan, who has publicly said he understands, but does not support the anger against Bud Light, celebrated Gillis for doing what he wanted.
