In June of 2023, Representative Elise Stefanik shared the joyful news that she was expecting her first child, expressing her overwhelming happiness at the prospect of becoming a parent.

Earlier that time, the congresswoman, who was expecting her first child, found herself in a position where she had to defend her pregnancy.

She strongly criticized a local Vermont television station, deeming their remarks as “outrageously sexist” after the station aired a segment discussing her pregnancy.

Elise tweeted, “A local news station thinks it’s appropriate for two male ‘journalists/analysts’ to question whether a pregnant woman or new mother can effectively legislate in elected office.”

During the discussion, Stefanik faced criticism, being referred to as “someone who wants to be scarce after having a child” and as someone perceived to be “not up to full-time engagement on the floor of the House.”

It’s worth noting that in May 2023, Stefanik was approved for the No. 3 leadership position in the Republican Party, stepping into the role after the removal of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from that position.
