Who Is Raman Dlamini, Doja Cat Brother? Abuse Controversy In Restraining Order Filing

Raman Dlamini is the brother of Agora Hills singer Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, who goes by her stage name, Doja Cat.

Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, a world-renowned singer, was born on October 21, 1995, in the Tarzana locality of Los Angeles, California.

Doja Cat is the daughter of her mother, Deborah Sawyer, an American graphic designer with Jewish roots, and her father, Dumisani Dlamini, a South African artist of Zulu ancestry.

Dumisani Dlamini gained recognition for his role as Crocodile in the original Broadway production of the musical “Sarafina!” and its 1992 film adaptation.

The parents were in a brief relationship while Dumisani Dlamini performed on Broadway in New York City.

However, he couldn’t spend much time with Amala and her brother due to his busy touring schedule.

Dumisani has mentioned leaving his family in the U.S. for South Africa due to homesickness, hoping they would join him there. Despite this, Dlamini has repeatedly asserted that she is estranged from her father, claiming she has “never met him.”

In contrast, her father denies these statements, claiming a “healthy” relationship with his daughter.

He suggests that her management team has actively hindered his attempts to reach out, fearing they might lose her.

Who Is Raman Dlamini, Doja Cat Brother?

Abuse Controversy In Restraining Order Filing

Doja Cat’s brother Raman Dlamini was recently revealed to be abusing his sister physically.

After her birth, Dlamini moved from Tarzana to Rye, New York, where she spent five years living with her maternal grandmother, who was an architect and painter.

At the age of eight, she and her mother and brother returned to California and settled in the Sai Anantam Ashram, a commune in Agoura Hills.

During her four years at the commune, she embraced Hinduism, donning head-covering scarves and participating in the singing of bhajans at the temple. However, she expressed feeling constrained, unable to experience a normal childhood during this period fully.

The family later moved to Oak Park, where she and her brother Raman faced racial prejudice as some of the few mixed-race children in the area.

As for the case, Doja Cat’s mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, has taken legal action by filing a temporary restraining order against her 30-year-old son, Raman Dalithando Dlamin.

The filing alleges that Raman has been both physically and verbally abusive towards the singer. According to Deborah Sawyer, there was an instance where Raman knocked out Doja’s teeth, although the timeline of this incident remains unclear.

Additionally, the filing claims that Raman has caused cuts and bruises to Doja and has been involved in the theft and destruction of her property.

Deborah further added in her filing that Raman has been verbally abusive towards his sister in a manner that is degrading and demeaning. She asserts that his actions have made Doja feel unsafe and traumatized.

Deborah accused Raman of not only physically abusing her but also threatening her on multiple occasions within the past year. According to her, the most recent incident occurred earlier this month.

While the judge has granted Deborah court-ordered protection from her son, pending a hearing for a permanent restraining order, this protection was not extended to Doja.

The ruling stipulates that Doja would need to file her own request for a restraining order. In the filed documents, Doja’s mom mentioned that she had previously obtained a restraining order against her son, but it has expired since then.
