Don’s legacy is remembered in a monument on the courthouse lawn in Greenup County, Kentucky that declares “This is Don Gullett Country.”

The standout major league pitcher who played for four consecutive World Series champions in the 1970s died on Wednesday. He was 73.

The Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, and Baseball Hall of Fame all paid tribute to the esteemed athlete in social media posts.

There was no information provided on the cause of his death, but the Cincinnati Enquirer reported he was fighting with some health issues.

He was suffering from a health issue for a long time. Back in 1986, the Hall of Famer suffered a heart attack. He also had another heart attack in 1990 and had triple bypass cardiac surgery in June of that year.

Amid speculation regarding his passing due to cardiac issues, it’s important to note that this information has not been confirmed by genuine sources.

The Reds Legend Don Gullett Is Remembered By His Former Teammates

In a post on social media Wednesday, his former teammate, Jonny Bench, called the pitcher one of the best athletes and competitors he had ever seen or played with and noted that he would be missed.

Johnny, a 14-time All-Star, played with great players, including Don Gullett, who never made an All-Star team.

Bench, the Major League Baseball (MLB) Hall of Famer, with Gullet in his team, led the Cincinnati Reds to back-to-back World Series titles in the mid-1970s.

Gullett and Bench still had a strong bond with each other as they had built a strong bond during their time in the Reds.

In the first seven seasons of his career, Don spent in the Cincinnati Reds and ended up winning four National League pennants and two World Series championships with Johnny.

Even without making it to the All-Star team, Gullett has been one of the most consistent and reliable pitchers of his era and ended his career with a 109-50 record.
