Her father, Tsihaye (b. January 20, 1964), was a refugee from Eritrea with Ethiopian Jewish roots. He left the family when Tiffany was just three years old.
Despite the long period of non-communication, Tsihaye later re-entered Tiffany’s life, walking her down the aisle in 2000, a moment she cherished.
Tsihaye passed away in 2017 due to pneumonia and heart failure. In 2018, Tiffany paid tribute to her father by wearing a traditional Eritrean gown at the Oscars and visited Eritrea to bury his remains.
On the other hand, Leola, Tiffany’s mother, was a small business owner and a Jehovah’s Witness.
After remarrying, Leola gave birth to four children, Tiffany’s half-siblings. Tragically, in 1988, Leola suffered a severe brain injury in a car accident.
The accident was a deliberate act to harm Tiffany by her stepfather, Othello English, who had cut the brakes in an attempt to harm Leola and the children.
