The American politician holds a position in the Nassau County Legislature, representing the 10th district of Long Island, New York, as a Republican.

Although she has been a registered Democrat since 2012, she ran for the legislature on the Republican ballot line.

At the age of 18, she began her service in the Israel Defense Force’s Paratroopers Brigade (Tzanchanim) as a gunsmith.

At the University of Haifa, she completed her undergraduate studies in occupational therapy and later pursued a master’s degree in diplomacy and security at Tel Aviv University.

She competed as the Republican nominee in the United States House of Representatives New York 3rd congressional district special election in February 2024, vying for the seat vacated by George Santos, but lost to Democrat Tom Suozzi.

Mazi Pilip exchanged vows with her husband, Adalbert Pilip, in the year 2005, marking the beginning of their married life.

Her husband, Dr. Adalbert Pilip, MD, serves as a cardiology specialist in Smithtown, NY, with more than 17 years of expertise in the medical arena.

Adalbert graduated from Technion-Israel Institute of Technology/Faculty of Medicine with his medical degree in 2005.

It was during Mazi’s time studying for her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy at the University of Haifa that she and Adalbert first met.

Adalbert Pilip, an American-Ukrainian-Jewish medical student, came to Haifa from the United States to pursue his medical studies at the Technion.

As they shared stories of the hardships endured by their families, their initial friendship deepened into a romantic relationship.

Following several years of dating, the couple exchanged vows, and after marrying Mazi, they relocated to the US, where he pursued his career in medicine.

Their journey brought them to the United States, where they established their home in Great Neck, New York. They chose this area renowned for its vibrant Jewish community upon immigrating from Israel in 2005.

It’s been almost twenty years since they established themselves in Great Neck.

As an Orthodox Jew, Mazi has served as vice president of her synagogue (KOI Yisrael Achim) and has been actively involved in revitalizing the Great Neck region and advocating for Israel within Jewish groups.

Mazi Pilip and her husband proudly raise seven children, showcasing their unwavering commitment to both family and community. 

Their children include Liad, Liam, Ethan, Benjamin, Noa, Adele, and Lea.

Mazi was born around 1978 or 1979 into poverty in a remote Ethiopian village that lacked essential services like electricity and running water. She identifies ethnically as an Ethiopian Jew.

As the daughter of a farmer, she grew up witnessing her father’s hard work under the Ethiopian sun, cultivating the land to support their family. Her childhood was defined by the challenging circumstances of scarcity and adversity.

While Philip has been open about her childhood with her three sisters, she has maintained secrecy regarding her parents’ names.

She, along with her family, arrived in Israel as refugees in 1991 when she was 12 years old, as part of Operation Solomon.

The operation, conducted by the Israeli military, successfully airlifted over 14,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel within a day and a half.

After meeting her future husband, Adalbert Pilip, in Israel, they began a new chapter together, crossing the Atlantic to make their home in the United States in 2005.

Presently, she possesses dual nationality, being both American and Israeli, and comes from a diverse ethnic background inherited from her family.
