Growing up, Lainey saw her dad working hard on their farm, while her mom taught her the importance of honesty and kindness.

Her family’s love for classic country music, like Buck Owens and Glen Campbell, influenced her own musical taste.

Lainey, born on May 19, 1992, was the second child in her family and spent her childhood in Baskin, Louisiana, a small town with just 250 people.

About her family, she said:

My family means a whole lot to me. I am who I am because of the people who raised me. I love them, I really do. I feel like I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t raised by Brian and Michelle Wilson.

Upon winning her first Grammy Award in February 2024, she took the opportunity to express gratitude to her family as she accepted the accolade for best country album.

During 2022, Brian faced a series of health challenges, spending two months in the hospital undergoing treatment for a fungal infection that necessitated the removal of his left eye and facial bones, in addition to enduring a stroke.

Over the course of his stay, Brian underwent a total of nine surgeries and then spent three weeks undergoing rehabilitation.

Lainey bravely discussed the fear she experienced as she watched her father fight for survival.

He successfully recovered and was seen accompanying Wilson on the red carpet at the 56th CMA Awards.

As a White individual with roots in Caucasian White ancestry, Lainey Wilson’s upbringing in Baskin, Louisiana, forms an integral part of her identity and artistic expression.
