In 2015, Mortensen faced controversy when he and Adam Schefter were found to have promoted Domino’s on Twitter without disclosing they were paid for it, violating FTC regulations.

He also erroneously reported about underinflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game in 2015, despite later findings debunking his claims. Despite this, his original story remained on ESPN’s platform without retraction or apology.

During an interview on ESPN’s Dan Le Batard Show, Mortensen deleted his controversial tweet about the underinflated footballs. However, he continued to stand by his initial report.

In November 2016, Chris Mortensen shared in an interview that although doctors had cleared his throat and tongue of cancer at that time, they had discovered several new malignant nodules in his left lung, indicating that the cancer had spread.

Despite facing these challenges, Mortensen’s strong faith in Christ was the source of strength for him.

He expressed in an interview that without his faith, he doubted he would have been able to navigate through the difficult period.

Mortensen emphasized the importance of his Christian faith and cited passages from the Bible that encouraged believers to find solace in God’s love and promises even amidst trials and tribulations.

His faith at that time had provided him with a sense of hope and resilience as he continued to battle cancer.

Chris Mortensen Survived His Wife And Son

Chris Mortensen was married to Micki Mortensen, and they had a son named Alex Mortensen.

Alex pursued a career as a coach and former professional quarterback. Mortensen family was a devout Christian.

On January 15, 2016, Mortensen revealed through an ESPN statement that he had been diagnosed with stage IV throat cancer, leading him to take a leave of absence from his on-air duties at the network.

Chris Mortensen’s commitment extended beyond sports to encompass his cherished family, notably his wife Micki Mortensen.
