Panel Discussion – Chella Man in conversation with Superfest co-director Shaina Ghuraya.

Join us after Sunday’s Superfest screenings at the Asian Art Museum for a panel and Q&A with filmmaker, actor, artist, and activist Chella Man, moderated by Superfest Co-Director Shaina Ghuraya.

Chella Man is a New York-based artist, director, and author whose work features the continuums of disability, race, gender, and sexuality, informed by his Deaf, trans, Jewish, and Chinese identities. Chella made his acting debut in the second season of DC’s “Titans” as Jericho, a crime-fighter who uses sign language to communicate. Chella is also the filmmaker of Superfest 2023’s “The Beauty of Being Deaf,” an experimental short film that meditates on Deaf identity and language underwater.

Access information for Sunday Screening:

  • All of the films will be available with closed audio descriptions. This year Superfest is partnering with the DiCapta Foundation to offer audio descriptions via their app All4Access. Please visit the All4Access page before the program to download the app and familiarize yourself with how it will work with our program.
  • All of the films will play with open captioning.
  • Certified Deaf Interpreters will be present for all live dialogue but will not interpret during the films.
  • Wheelchair seating for you and your wheelchair-user or non-wheelchair-user companions in a wheelchair-accessible venue. The screening auditorium is on the second floor and can be reached by elevator.
  • Wheelchairs are available at the information desk on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Some spaces are available for those who must bring their own seating.
  • Two universal (gender-neutral and barrier-free) restrooms are located behind the cafe on the ground floor.
  • We require our venues to abstain from using scented products leading up to and during the festival. However, we know this may not be adequate for all guests.
  • Seating areas where social distancing will be possible.
  • Wheelchair-accessible restrooms with changing tables are located on every level.
  • The venue is two blocks from Civic Center BART. Visit the map here for directions.
  • For other access needs and questions, please contact Emily Beitiks at pklinst@sfsu.edu.

Sunday COVID procedures: The Asian Art Museum is limited by city guidelines. Therefore, proof of vaccination status is not required, and masks are optional. We would like to remind our guests that many people attending Superfest are at higher risk of complications from COVID-19 so masks are strongly recommended.

Photos will be taken. To opt out, please contact us at Pklinst@sfsu.edu or tell a Superfest staff person, and we will ensure that your photographs will be blurred out in any future promotional materials.

Superfest On Demand

Your pass to the screening of Superfest also allows you to access all of the other films from Superfest 2023 virtually. To learn more, visit our virtual Superfest page.

Also, don’t forget to join us for our online community conversation to wrap up the Superfest weekend:

SATURDAY, Oct. 21st @ 5-7 pm PT / 8-10 pm ET – Superfest Community Conversation
Once you’ve watched some of the films from Superfest 2023, join us for a chance to chat with some of the filmmakers and other Superfest attendees to share your reactions with the Superfest community, moderated by our Cafe Crip leader, Bianca Laureano. What did you love? Which film gave you that moment of joy, seeing your story told without stereotypes or pity? What was your best laugh? What film went over your head? ASL and live captioning provided. Some filmmakers will be present!
