William Holden Wife: Brenda Marshall

William Holden and Brenda Marshall became husband and wife on July 12, 1941, marking the beginning of their marital journey.

Brenda, born on July 30, 1992, achieved recognition as an American film actress. Making her debut in “Wives of Tomorrow” as Ardis Gaines, she went on to feature in “The Sea Hawk,” “Captains of the Clouds,” “Paris After Dark,” and more.

In 1939, they first met each other while working on “Invisible Stripes,” but Holden decided not to ask Marshall out because she was still technically married and had a child.

Brenda confessed “I thought he was very nice and very good-looking” as Bill asserts more openly, “I couldn’t forget her.”

Holden found himself unable to forget about her after their first meeting, and three months later, he finally gave in.

After three months of constant thoughts about Marshall, Holden mustered the courage to ask her out and later got married after Marshall’s divorce to actor Richard Huston Gaines.

Following their first meeting, they got married in Las Vegas twenty-one months later.

After thirty years of marriage, William and Brenda divorced in 1971, leading Marshall to make a new home in Palm Springs, California.

Speculations arose suggesting that Holden planned to divorce Marshall to wed Audrey, yet Audrey rejected his proposal, reportedly due to her wish for children, especially considering Holden’s vasectomy.

Following that, William encountered French actress Capucine in the early 1960s, and the pair co-starred in the movies “The Lion” and “The 7th Dawn.”

It’s been reported that they engaged in a two-year affair, which supposedly concluded due to Holden’s battle with alcoholism. Nevertheless, Capucine and Holden remained friends thereafter.

William's nine-year relationship with actress Stefanie Powers, starting in 1972, reached its conclusion in 1981, signifying his last romantic commitment.

William’s ex-wife, Brenda, sadly passed away in Palm Springs in 1992 at the age of 76 after battling throat cancer.
