Hostin made her foray into television as a commentator for Court TV. It was during this time that she adopted the stage name “Sunny Hostin” at the suggestion of host Nancy Grace, who found Hostin’s birth name, “Asunción,” challenging to pronounce.

Hostin then joined the Fox News program The O’Reilly Factor, contributing to segments titled Is It Legal? and engaging in debates with personalities like Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly.

Afterward, she was signed by CNN President Jon Klein in September 2007 as the legal analyst for the network’s flagship morning show, American Morning.

In 2014, Hostin became a frequent guest contributor on the ABC daytime talk show The View, marking her transition into the realm of daytime television.

Recently, on the PBS program Finding Your Roots, Hostin discovered that she has a significant amount of Spanish ancestry and is descended from Spanish colonizers.

Additionally, it was revealed that her fourth great-grandfather was involved in the slave trade as a merchant.

Sunny Hostin expressed great disappointment upon discovering that her ancestors from Spain were slave owners.

The 56-year-old host of The View revealed that learning about her maternal ancestors’ likely involvement in slavery was deeply troubling for her.

According to the episode, Her third great-grandfather, who was the son of a Spanish merchant, owned at least one enslaved individual.

This big revelation left Sunny Hostin grappling with the unsettling reality of her family’s history.

Additionally, she learned that she was only seven percent indigenous Puerto Rican, among other surprising revelations uncovered about her family’s past.

She had a challenging conversation with her mother after watching the show. Hostin expressed that During Thursday’s episode of The View, Sunny Hostin informed her co-hosts that she found the revelation deeply disheartening.

She recounted how her mother, who had Puerto Rican heritage, was actively involved in the civil rights movement and strongly identified with Black culture.

In a surprising revelation, Hostin also discovered that she shares similar ancestry with her husband, Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Hostin, who is of mixed Spanish and Haitian heritage.

The couple exchanged vows in 1998, just two years after their initial meeting. They met at a church when they were both living in Maryland.
