Richard Chamberlain Wife: Is He Married To Anyone After Separating From Martin Rabbett?
Richard Chamberlain is no longer married but was once married to Martin Rabbett, his ex-husband.
The year 1977 marked the beginning of his enduring bond with Martin, who is 19 years his junior.
As a writer and producer, Martin Rabbett has made notable contributions to projects like “Finite Water,” “Island Son,” and “Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold.”
Because of the lack of legal recognition for gay marriage in the US, they opted to relocate to Hawaii in 1986 and solidify their commitment through a civil union. They privately married in 1984.
Acquiring a two-story house in Kihei on the western coast of Maui in 1999, the married couple moved in together.
Their property, which included a main house and a carriage house, occupied a 0.57-acre parcel with over 100 feet of beachfront. Additionally, the duo underwent a comprehensive reconstruction of their opulent home in 2005.
Richard disclosed in 2004 that he first encountered Rabbett while collaborating on a play in Los Angeles. As the production moved to different locations, their relationship deepened following the conclusion of Rabbett’s prior involvement.
In 2010, the couple parted ways amicably, with Chamberlain relocating to Los Angeles after a forty-year romantic relationship.
Although the couple didn’t reveal the cause of their separation, a U.S. publication called Globe reported that they parted ways due to conflicting visions for their future.
During a 2014 interview, Chamberlain expressed that although their romantic relationship had ended, he and Rabbett remained close companions.
After parting ways with Martin Rabbett, Richard Chamberlain remained unmarried.
Despite his past relationships, including his significant bond with Rabbett, Chamberlain’s current status reflects his independence from marital commitments.
In recent years, Chamberlain made a notable appearance in an episode of the American mystery drama "Twin Peaks."
This cameo marked a return to the screen for Chamberlain, showcasing his enduring presence and versatility in the realm of television and entertainment.
Richard Chamberlain’s Sexuality & Past Relationship
Despite being gay, Richard kept his homosexuality private for the better part of his career to safeguard his personal life and acting prospects.
In December 1989, he was outed by the French women’s magazine Nous Deux, but he didn’t officially confirm it until the publication of his 2003 autobiography, “Shattered Love: A Memoir.”
He expressed that being gay in his era was not seen as a choice, as his family and friends unanimously considered it “impossible, horrible, and gasping.”
Previously, during the early 1970s, Richard, the gay actor in his late 80s, first encountered the director Wesley Eure. Their relationship started in 1973, when Richard was 41 and Eure was 24.
According to reports, the gay partners remained together until they broke up in 1976.
In addition to that, Richard was in a relationship with American actress Chris Noel from 1964 to 1965.
Chamberlain also had a relationship with the late actress Sharon Hugueny in 1962.
