Panel Discussion – Daisy Friedman in conversation with Superfest Emcee and 2023 Juror Matthew Alaniz.
Join us for a panel and Q&A session with filmmaker, writer, and director Daisy Friedman, immediately following the Superfest screenings on Saturday at the Freight and Salvage. The discussion will be moderated by Superfest Emcee and 2023 Juror Matthew Alaniz.
Daisy Friedman, a disabled writer and director based in New York City, is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Film Studies at Barnard College of Columbia University. She is passionate about delving into the intricate dynamics of embodiment, disfigurement, and the desirability of underrepresented communities through the medium of film. Daisy’s directorial debut, “As You Are,” was honored with the Best of Festival Award at Superfest 2023.
Access information for Saturday Screening:
- Every film will feature closed audio descriptions, and for this year’s Superfest, we’ve teamed up with the DiCapta Foundation to provide these descriptions through their All4Access app. We encourage you to visit the All4Access page before the program, download the app, and acquaint yourself with its functionality in relation to our program.
- All films will be screened with open captions.
- Certified Deaf Interpreters will be available for all live dialogue but will not provide interpretation during the film screenings.
- Wheelchair seating is available for both wheelchair users and companions, whether they use a wheelchair or not, at the accessible Freight & Salvage venue.
- Although the venue currently lacks gender-neutral bathrooms, we will be designating them as such for the duration of the day.
- There are available spaces for individuals who bring their own seating.
- The Freight is pleased to offer assisted listening devices upon request. Additionally, a hearing loop system is available, transmitting sound directly to hearing aids with a t-coil. To benefit from this feature, please ensure you are seated within the looped area of the auditorium.
- There are bench seating options available.
- Our venues are mandated to refrain from using scented products in the lead-up to and during the festival. Nevertheless, we acknowledge that this measure may not be sufficient for all guests.
- Seating areas will be arranged to allow for social distancing.
- The venue is located a short distance of half a block from BART. See here for other transportation details.
- For additional inquiries regarding access needs, please reach out to Emily Beitiks at pklinst@sfsu.edu.
Saturday COVID procedure: At present, masks are not mandatory at the Freight, but they can be provided upon request. However, for this program in the auditorium, all guests are required to wear masks. The venue, being spacious with an upgraded HVAC system, will offer options for more expansive seating to accommodate those who prefer extra room for safety. For more details on COVID procedures, see the Freight’s policy and vaccination requirement here.
Photographs will be taken during the event. To opt-out, please reach out to us at Pklinst@sfsu.edu or inform a Superfest staff member, and we will guarantee that your photographs are blurred out in any future promotional materials.
